Imagine yourself at Rains Farm ...

As you leave behind the hustle and bustle of everyday life, you explore the quiet country roads approaching Rains Farm. You are quickly aware that this is a historic landscape. The sheep and horses are in the fields and you can hear the birds in the hedgerows and trees.

On arrival, you receive a warm Yorkshire welcome from your hosts Jean and Lorraine, before being shown across the suntrap courtyard to your four star luxury cottage, or alongside the well-kept gardens to your four star 'silver award' farmhouse bed and breakfast accommodation. You are already beginning to experience the peace and tranquillity.

Historic Rains Farm ...

Rains Farm is hidden deep in North Yorkshire's countryside and has a history that dates back to at least the 17th Century. With a choice of five luxury cottages and five en suite silver award B & B bedrooms, the farm has earned an enviable reputation for quality accommodation, warm hospitality and delicious traditional farmhouse breakfasts.

Cottages are available all year round, whilst B & B rooms are available throughout the year, except over the Christmas and New Year periods. All the accommodation is centrally heated.

4* luxury holiday cottages ...

A former winner of the Ryedale Good Design and Construction Awards, the five four star luxury cottages are converted from a range of traditional stone barns and stand around a large, south-facing, sunny courtyard with a feature fountain. Many historic features were incorporated during reconstruction.

Each cottage has been individually designed, and is furnished, decorated and equipped to the highest of standards. You can be confident that the resident owners will ensure your cottage is thoroughly cleaned and prepared for your arrival.

4* silver award B & B accommodation ...

Each of the five spacious B & B rooms has its own individual character and have all been cleverly converted to provide en suite facilities. Bedrooms overlook either the historic orchard, the colourful courtyard or the surrounding countryside, and have central heating, comfy beds, colour television and video.

A hearty breakfast is served in the beamed dining room, and guests can relax afterwards in the comfortable lounge which is complete with television and local tourist information.

Well-kept grounds and beautiful gardens ...

Set as it is in the rich pastures of the Vale of Pickering, the farm is on fertile soil, and its grounds blend almost seamlessly into the carefully maintained orchard, which includes several original oak, ash and fruit trees plus newer blossom and ornamental species.

A pergola and its linked arches make a sweetly-scented rose, clematis and honeysuckle walk in the summer months, whilst the courtyard by the cottages is highlighted with flowering climbers, several types of clematis, flower tubs and, at its centre, a raised bed with a fountain and colourful planting.

An oasis for wildlife as well as visitors ...

Rains Farm has a policy of actively helping and encouraging nature and wildlife. There have been regular sightings on the Farm of over 35 different species of birds including owls, hawks, herons and woodpeckers.

In the orchard hedgehogs, squirrels, stoats and moles can occasionally be spotted, and the elusive fox, deer, badger and hare can sometimes been seen in the surrounding fields.

One recently-created feature is a small wildlife lake, located at the far side of the old orchard. This provides a quiet observation area where wildlife can be seen in its natural surroundings. Please note, however, that the lake is unfenced, so children must be supervised at all times by an adult when entering this area, for their own safety.

Use the menu system to explore our cottages and B & B accommodation, as well as our multimedia section, and articles about the history of the farm and its transformation.
